Angeline Partners with Moffitt Ahead of World Lung Day

August 14th, 2026
Metro News - Angeline Partners with Moffitt Ahead of World Lung Day

At Angeline, wellness isn’t just a value we talk about. It’s something we build into everyday life, from the fresh produce grown at The Farm at Angeline to the neighbors who show up for one another. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Moffitt Cancer Center to bring awareness to World Lung Day, when Moffitt’s mobile lung cancer screening unit, the only one of its kind in Florida, rolls into Angeline to bring screening and education directly to our community.

Before the bus arrives, we’re getting the conversation started with A Taste of Prevention, a free community event at Angeline.

Join Us for A Taste of Prevention

Friday, August 28 | 12 p.m. or 4 p.m. | Free and open to the public

Chef Jules Graziano of Moffitt’s PEARL Kitchen will lead a live cooking demonstration featuring healthy, flavorful recipes backed by evidence-based nutrition science. You’ll sample the dishes, take home a Moffitt Prevention Cookbook, and hear from Dr. Lary Robinson, Medical Director of Moffitt’s LEAD Program, on how everyday choices can play a role in lowering cancer risk.

Expect:

  • Healthy cooking from Moffitt’s PEARL Kitchen
  • Lung cancer prevention basics
  • Early detection and screening, explained
  • A live Q&A with Moffitt experts

Space is limited to 40 people per session, and RSVPs are due by August 21.

Questions? Reach out to chloe.byrd@moffitt.org or 813-745-2050.

Why Prevention and Early Detection Matter

Nutrition and screening might seem like separate conversations, but Moffitt’s research shows they’re closely connected. According to Dr. Robinson, both diet and exercise have been shown in numerous studies to play a meaningful role in lung cancer prevention. Screening matters too: nationally, only about 16% of people who are eligible actually get screened, even though it’s one of the most effective tools for catching the disease early, when it’s often easier to treat. Current guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommend annual low-dose CT screenings for adults age 50 and older with a 20 pack-year smoking history who currently smoke or quit within the past 15 years. If that describes you or someone you love, it’s worth a conversation with a doctor.

The Main Event: World Lung Day at Angeline

A Taste of Prevention is just the warm-up. The real centerpiece of this partnership arrives this fall, when Moffitt brings its mobile lung cancer screening unit to Angeline in recognition of World Lung Day, giving eligible neighbors a chance to get screened without leaving the community. Screening details are coming soon, so stay tuned.

A Season Built Around Community Health

A Taste of Prevention and World Lung Day are two parts of the same story: making prevention, nutrition and early detection feel approachable, whether that’s over a plate of food or a conversation about screening. Health and wellness are core to who we are at Angeline, and it’s why we seek out partnerships like this one with Moffitt. We’re glad to bring that story to our community this fall, and we hope you’ll be part of it.
