Who We Are

Metro Development Group (MDG) is the Southeast’s largest privately held residential real estate developer. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Tampa, MDG specializes in master-planned community land development across Florida, partnering with more than 30 award-winning national and regional homebuilders — including Lennar, D.R. Horton, KB Home, Pulte, and Dream Finders — to bring master-planned communities from raw land to move-in-ready.

MDG has developed 100,000+ residential lots, 5,000+ multi-family units, and 35 million square feet of commercial space across 70+ completed communities. That scale reflects two decades of taking raw land and building the full ecosystems around it — the homes, the amenities, the infrastructure, and the retail — required to create communities where residents can live and thrive.

MDG is best known for pioneering the man-made lagoon amenity in the United States. In 2019, MDG opened the first lagoon in the U.S. at its Epperson community in Wesley Chapel, and later developed the largest man-made lagoon in the country at Mirada. Additional active MetroLagoon™ communities include Southshore Bay, Brightwater, and Seaire. Future MetroLagoons are planned for Sandal Key, Angeline, and Diamond Springs.
