Metro Development Group Is Bringing Lagoon Living to Hernando County
As Hernando County continues its rise as one of Tampa Bay’s most sought-after residential markets, Metro Development Group is proud to be leading the way. The Tampa Bay Business Journal recently highlighted MDG’s expanding footprint in the region, spotlighting two communities that are redefining what it means to live in Hernando County: Sandal Key and Sunrise Hills.
Hernando County’s First Lagoon Community
At nearly 900 acres along U.S. Highway 19, Sandal Key is already home to over 3,000 residences at build-out — and its most exciting chapter is just getting started. A first-of-its-kind manmade lagoon is expected to break ground by the end of this year, bringing Hernando County its first resort-style lagoon community complete with private cabanas and a full-service bar. Builders including D.R. Horton and KB Home offer homes priced from the $300,000s, making the lagoon lifestyle more attainable than ever.
A Growing Vision for the Region
Just down the road, MDG’s newest Hernando community, Sunrise Hills, is taking shape adjacent to I-75 and Cortez Boulevard. The master-planned development will deliver finished lots to builders by end of 2026, with plans for 1,678 single-family homes and another manmade lagoon anchoring the community.
As Lisa Gibbings, MDG’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, shared with the Tampa Bay Business Journal: “There is a natural sprawl happening where folks in the Tampa Bay region are pushing North into Hernando County in search of more green space, affordability and lifestyle-driven communities centered around health and wellness.”
Sandal Key is exactly that place.
