Field and Fork: April 2025

Tomatoes: A Resilient Harvest and a Fresh Start
Our fall and winter tomatoes have wrapped up their season after an impressive run—surviving two hurricanes and multiple chilly nights. These hardworking plants provided us with delicious tomatoes for months, but now it’s time for the next generation.
We’ve been nurturing new tomato plants from seed in our high tunnel to ensure strong, healthy growth. Just recently, we moved them into the field, where they’re thriving under the open sky. If all goes well, our fresh, juicy tomatoes will be ready for the community again in June. Stay tuned—we can’t wait to share the harvest!

Healthier Soil: From the Ground Up
As we expand into new fields, we’re also revitalizing the soil in our original plots. The transformation is evident—rich, dark soil near the showcase garden, thanks to our efforts in adding organic fertilizers, biochar, and locally sourced compost to enrich nutrients and support plant vitality. The deep, dark color of the soil is a clear sign of its health, indicating a thriving ecosystem beneath the surface.
