Metro Places’ community events create a sense of place for residents

It’s not every day you get to take a ride in a tethered hot air balloon – especially one that is anchored right down the street from your home. When you live in a Metro Places community, such as Union Park in Wesley Chapel, exciting opportunities like this are part of the norm.

In addition to hot air balloon rides, Union Park residents also enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, food and drinks at the community’s second annual Oktoberfest. The successful event, which had about 300 residents, is one of many free, family-friendly events at the community.

As another example, Metro recently helped sponsor the Fall Festival at Cypress Creek in Ruskin, where residents enjoyed a barbeque buffet, a cotton candy machine and a caramel apple dipping station. Back in May, Metro hosted a Summer Block Party at Waterleaf in Riverview, which included food trucks, a rock-climbing wall, a bounce house and exciting giveaways for both residents and guests, which included a chance to win a free stay at the TradeWinds Island Resorts on St. Pete Beach.

Chloe Crooks, Metro Development Group’s Community Relations Coordinator, helps to make these events happen to engage residents and the local community.

“Metro is always excited to help plan and sponsor the events that make our communities such a great place to live,” Crooks said. “These events help create a sense of community among neighbors and give residents an opportunity to connect with one another, while enjoying free and fun activities with the family.”

Last month, for Halloween, residents of Union Park kicked off the festivities early on Friday, Oct. 29, with the annual block party. Residents set up tables in their driveways with candy for kids and adult beverages for the 21+ crowd. There was a contest for the best drink of the night, and the party ended with a spooky outdoor movie at the community’s amenity center.

There will be many more free, family-friendly events coming up in Metro Places’ communities throughout the year – stay tuned for updates and photos on our Facebook page.
